World Scout Jamboree

Posted on September 18th, 2017 by Drew Marshall

It is finally here! The 24th World Scout Jamboree selection details have been released!

The 24th World Scout Jamboree will take place in Virginia, USA between the 22nd July and the 2nd August 2019. If you were born on or between the 22 July 2001 and 21 July 2005 then you are one of the lucky people who can apply to attend this exceptional event as a participant. Jamboree Units are selected locally and in order to be selected you will have to undergo a selection procedure, as explained below. If you think you are too old then please see the final page for more details of how you still can get involved.

What is a Jamboree?

A World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is a gathering of Scouts and Guides from all over the world for an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, friendship and fun. It really will be the “experience of a lifetime” for those lucky enough to take part. It’s bigger than the Olympics, both in terms of the number of participants, and also the number of countries represented. You’ll live and take part in activities alongside Scouts from all over the world, making new friends for life and experiencing different cultures – including some that you never even knew existed.

What do we know about the Jamboree so far?

Lots of details about the 24th WSJ are still to be released but the latest information can be found at

How do I apply?

Participants are going to be selected by a team from Ashdown District, many of whom you have seen at other events. If you want to be considered for selection, please fully complete an application form, which you can obtain from your section leader and then return it before 7th October 2017 to: Drew Marshall, ADC (Scouts). The full details are on the form.

Your form will then be assessed against the initial selection criteria and you will be contacted before 10th October confirming whether you have made it through to the final selection weekend. This will will involve an overnight camp. The District will cover all of the costs involved in the selection weekend.
